Hello! Thank you for visiting my educational portfolio. My name is Jenna Hoogstra. I have been teaching in Washington D.C. for the past five years. I grew up the middle of three sisters in Wyoming, Michigan. Lake Michigan and the Provincial Parks of Ontario were places of year-long exploring, camping and hiking with my family. All of these experiences with the outdoors became my inspiration to teach science and show children how to be good stewards of the Earth. I also love traveling, singing and getting lost in a book. I have been married for three years and my husband and I love to travel and explore the world. During our most recent trip we explored the countries of India and Nepal.
After student teaching in inner-city Chicago, I graduated from Calvin College with a B.A. in Education with minors in Science and Language Arts. While at Calvin, I was involved with the summer science camp where I shared my love for the outdoors with middle-school age children. I also worked as an orientation leader for incoming freshman and served as an after-school tutor at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I use all of these experiences as my foundation for teaching activities. Thanks again for visiting my portfolio and feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.
